Eastern Anuire, Elinie, Pasifiel 1578 HC......
….”this is some ploy on his part.” The warrior rumbled. This is far beyond the powers of one mage he thought but “there are others…” and his thoughts left his mouth he left the sentence trail off as he considered the source of his predicament. Perhaps it was the Sword Mage himself, or even the dark powers under the command of the Cold Rider, but what sort of punishment was that. Maybe the forces of goodness where here to punish or to assist him but that sort of indirect punishment was unlike them. It was not Haelyn for sure, the father of goodness would prefer more blatant torments for those he would want to punish. “Ahh” Talbot exclaimed at last. He looked into the pale morning mist searching for some sign of the evil creature. “Show yourself Dark One”.” The mists curled and before Talbot’s dark red eyes, but nothing appeared. Again he listened intently. No sound penetrated the fog. He expected no answer but he was no longer speaking in hope of a reply; but in hopes of keeping his own sanity. Surrounded by silence utterly alone he could feel himself slipping into insanity.

Suddenly
a growl echoed from a short distance as if some big predator was after
prey. In the darkness there , a pair of blood red eyes stared intently
at the warrior. The orbs were all he saw at first but then as he focused
more and more he could see through the veil of darkness and into the
eyes of the great gray-furred hound that was crouched behind the thin
cover of brambles. A second beast then moved stealthily into a fighting
stance right into the brambles and joined the first. As it arrived it
threw its head back and yowled. Talbot knew that even if they had the
guise of hounds they could be much more dangerous and if not surely not
alone. “Come on” he challenged them, more pair of eyes crawled out of
the brambles and surrounded him. “If your master has ordered you , curs,
get it over with.” The great hounds remained at their spots, others
crouched others crossing the ground in steady, loping strides. Talbot
was unarmed, he studied his adversaries and he was now sure they showed
no sign of immediate attack, so what where they up to?
The as
moments passed Talbot was eager to find out what else was here with him.
Then amongst the brambles the sound of voices and the flickering flames
of the torches gave him the signs of life approaching his way. He could
feel the warmth coming his way and he could feel his ire rising high.
Out of the high grass and the swampy terrain half a dozen figures where
now clearly seen in the growing light. As they gained ground on him
Talbot fastened his feet on the ground and stood tall waiting for them.
As they were drawing closer Talbot fast reached for his blade,
unsheathing it and holding it in a loose fighting stance in front of him
he was waiting for his adversaries. The men approached attracted by the
baying of the hounds and as soon as they reached the site they could
now see the huge warrior standing surrounded by their hounds. As they
were now closing in Talbot brandishing his sword in front of him took a
few quick steps in front. The hounds close at hand rushed as to block
his way and they crowed in front of him huge teeth bared in snarls but
with no further advance. The human masters approaching now had a good
idea that they had in corner their prey. Spreading evenly in a crude
circle surrounding the warrior they brandished their spears in a hostile
way but rather of been more unsure of the end of this encounter. “In
the name of Lord Ezkel Copperhead and his father the High Commander of
Elinie Lord Loren Copperhead you are wanted for the torching of three
villages and the death of twenty five people, they law of Ghoere will
not withstand a beast like you roaming its lands.” Talbot weighted the
strength of the men and the hounds and with a sneer in his eye turns an
ironic reply to the young sergeant. “Turn back” more patronizing than
commanding, while lowering his voice in a deathly whisper “or join
me….” Cutting in a sweeping motion through the air with his blade he
reached the first soldiers left arm that from elbow dropped to the
ground. The hounds more reluctant made quick and jerking steps fleeing
back while the sergeant came off balance and blood purred out of his
carved arm. Everyone was able to see the precision of Talbots strike
and that made the soldiers more reluctant than before. A younger soldier
as Talbot was already in killing motion managed to spell…”call for the
……” while Talbot raised his sword in an overhead swing catching the
carotid artery in they full swing, blood spattered and the cries of the
hounds forewarned that death was fast approaching for all. The four
remaining men jumped backwards preparing their now defense but it seemed
that they had no hope to survive this unlikely dawn. “The stories were
true…” shouted one of them to the others as morale was already losing
altitude. “He is not human, he will slay us all, make a run for your
lives….” as the man spoke he could already see Talbot on top of one of
his companions with sword gashing in the head of the unfortunate man and
more blood spattering on the ground. “Reform…cried a voice…don’t fl…..”
as the poor soldier did not have time to turn around and meet eye to
eye his doom. Talbot thrusted his great sword in the man’s head bashing
the skull wide open. Two of the soldiers along side with the fleeing
dogs were already fleeing the scene while Talbot was already preparing
for his counterattack. Then as out of the unexpected the hooves of
galloping horsed could be heard and the sounds of panting horses closing
by. One dozen cavalry men where already approaching to meet their
scouting group and it was to Talbot’s delight they were all covered in
Ghoerian coat of arms. Moving towards them with no fear the mounted men
watched their scouting party flee the scene and the blood covered
warrior ready to welcome them in a new blood bath. “Join me and I will
spare your lives…your time with Ghoere has ended.” The warrior shouted
with all the power in his lounges and with that he leveled his great
sword in front of him. Some of the horsemen laughed and some sneered at
him, it was obvious by stance he was a trained warrior and that even the
least cavalry man could tell, but now the odds where surely against
him. “Drop your blade beast and we will drag you back to your cage..then
we can see who will server who.” Talbot knew this was not going to end
well once again but with his purpose firmly set in his mind he had to go
on. “Then you all die.” Sounded stern and firm as he abruptly cried.
The cavalry men laughed once more. Prepare the ropes I will drag him on
my horse back cried back the young commander of the guard. Talbot
leveled his eyes on the height the young commander meeting a nearly
early twenties boy who had passion in his heart. Almost sad for what was
about to come he took one sure step forward brandishing now his great
blade. “Then lets see who meets Haelyn first.”
The bright rays of the sun coming out of the east where like scorching beams of energy sprouting from all over burning Talbot’s eyes nostrils and body. As soon as the sun came around Talbot could feel his power drained and his body falling apart like that of a rug doll hanging over by strings that were now cut loose. The heavy blade cut its way in the mud and Talbot’s eyes blistered and burned as if fire itself was born out of them, it was only a matter of time till the cavalry men took the opportunity and bashed down the beast of a man that was plundering the eastern provinces of Ghoere. It was now time for the rewards to reach their pockets for such a catch or if they were lucky enough he would escape them before they reached their keep.
