One with the Darkness....part 1

Kozlovnyy, Novgorik, Haelynir 1584 HC (Healyn's Count)

Thinking about what he should do, Richard used his right arm to support the already failing Krystal, gazing up front the narrow gap he started to relax… Almost closing his eyes, he felt cold rising and the growing darkness was already upon his skin…
Suddenly, the light from the distance began to fade, and the darkness was growing even deeper, he already began to lose his sense of space and time. The walls of the cave were narrowing even close to him and Krystal and the ceiling had come so close to them that the cave started to seem more and more like a rabbit hole.
"What's going on?!" Krystal demanded almost hysterically, trying to stand up, but the closing walls all around his made his lose control of movement and fall on his knees. Richard tried to hold on his position but it was futile, the cave seemed to have a vertigo of movement all around them. Darkness swallowed all.

Suddenly, they couldn't see anything. He saw the floor of the cave, it was clearly not the floor they were standing upon moments before …. The scent of death and decay was in the air, the sound of horrified screams overloading his senses. Gasping in a shallow breath, he realized that the air was stiff, rigid. The voices stopped and a sudden sound, like that of breaking tons of glass echoed in his ears. All of it took less than a minute to happen, and then stopped.
He blinked, trying to get his vision back into focus, but it seemed that his body was losing the few ounces of unawareness that it still had.
Richard heard voices in the distance, but now that sound that seemed like… Voices? He tried to clear his mind while he touched his head. Dizzy and strangely sleepy, now, all sounds around him seemed distant, like whispers coming from some faraway place, and the voices he had thought he was listening to were now totally gone.

He felt himself shiver. That, for some reason, wasn't good at all. For the first time in his life, he started to feel fear.
"Stay awake… Stay awake." he muttered to himself and realized he had blood on his mouth. Suddenly, he didn't just have a bad feeling, but he felt genuine horror. It was the pain? Did it even matter?. Something was telling him that he just couldn't sleep. It was something more thise with him. But even so, it filled him with an unaccounted sense of dread.
His eyes were closing against his will, and he could no longer keep them open.
'No, NO' he thought, his own mind was tired, too tired and too much sleepy to fight.

When Richard recovered his conscience, the first thing he noticed was that he was laid over hard floor. He wasn't in pain anymore and the sensation of dizziness had gone.
But was possible, why he was there? Better, how? He couldn't remember practically anything... Few moments ago he was... Where he had been? Looking around he saw the stone floor of his tower, the walls of the Keep*. If he had died, that place didn't seem like Hell or Heaven.
So… Where was he?
Richard stood up and started to walk, looking around as if trying to figure out where he really was. He had an awful feeling about that… Though he couldn't remember. All was very weird. Feeling confused, he leaded himself to the third floor of the empty tower that grew more and more questions for him, Redric should have been here. A very acute pain stroke his mind, as if a big black horse was patting his paws over his brain…
So, he remembered. How he could have forgotten? The passage, Krystal, the cave.
How…? First he had fainted, very well, it was obvious, and now he was back at his tower? It had absolutely made no sense whatsoever.
"And this is leading to nowhere…" his thoughts slipped out of his mouth.

A noise of something sharp and “metallic” against the stone walls of his tower made his shiver. It was like fingernails against the wall, even worse. He felt an impulse of run, escape something cruel, something that didn't care about killing, something that was completely out of the laws that ruled his mind…

"Too scared to run?"

There was a man behind him, however… it was impossible to believe that this man could even be alive… His skin was absolutely coated in wisps of shadow and his eyes were like fiery orbs of hellfire, nurturing oblivion in their depth… And yet that didn’t seem to be what scared him. It was in fact that he had a kind of aura, a strange dark and evil force all around him that Richard couldn't see, but could feel… It was more than just evilness… Richard used to have pretty good intuitions about people and his mind was screaming that, if he didn't run, he would be killed….
Once in his life, he rejected his own intuition and stood there, despite his fear and staring at the man, who was clad in a dark steel full plate armor.

"Who are you?"

*the Keep was the Tower of family Stoutheart sold in the later years to become a luxurious Inn by the owners. The Keep was bought by the line of Rutherford and was remade as the housing of Lord Rutherford and his family
